Dr. John Peterson is a board-certified physician specializing in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology. With decades of experience in independent oncology practice, he is dedicated to providing personalized, comprehensive cancer care to patients in the community.

He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983. Dr. Peterson then pursued advanced subspecialty training through fellowships at two prestigious institutions, the University of North Carolina and Duke University, where he developed expertise in diagnosing and treating blood disorders and cancers.

Dr. Peterson has a distinguished history of independent practice ownership, demonstrating his commitment to patient-centered care delivered outside of large health systems. From 1992 to 2008, he independently operated his own oncology practice in Sanford, North Carolina, building lasting relationships with patients and earning a reputation for compassionate, high-quality care. Recognizing the community's growing needs, he expanded his reach by opening a second office in Cary, North Carolina, in 2005, thereby extending access to specialized cancer care for patients in that region.

Dr. Peterson maintains active privileges at both Catawba Valley Medical Center and Frye Regional Medical Center, ensuring his patients have access to comprehensive hospital-based services when needed.
