Summer is upon us. This time of renewal, featuring warmer days and inviting sunlight, is an important reminder to incorporate healthy habits for an enjoyable summer season. Soak up these wellness tips for a happy and healthy summer.

Stay Hydrated

The summer heat calls for extra hydration. Drinking enough water is critical. The general guideline for daily water consumption is about 8 cups per day, but everyone’s body is different, so listen to what your body needs. For added hydration, try infusing your water with lemon, lime, cucumber, mint, or other herbs. You can also incorporate hydrating fruits and veggies for optimal hydration.

Practice Sun Safety

The sun is especially more powerful during the summer months, which is why protecting your skin from the sun should be a daily priority. Practicing sun safety is critical in reducing your skin cancer risk. Being mindful of sun exposure and taking steps like using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, staying in a shaded area when outside, and wearing a wide-brim hat or clothes that cover your arms and legs is key

Incorporate Mindful Movement

If you workout or run outdoors, consider shifting your schedule to the early morning or late evening to avoid being outside during the hottest time of day when the sun’s UV rays are the most potent.

Embrace Seasonal Eating

Fresh and seasonal produce is at its peak during the summer months. Incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables into your diet can enhance your nutrition and aid in hydration.

Prioritize Sleep

Adequate sleep is essential to good health and optimal energy levels. Getting enough sleep during the summer is especially important because the hot summer days can be draining. The CDC recommends that most adults sleep between seven and nine hours a night.
