OSC Staff Spotlight: Halen

What is your name? Halen

What is your role at OSC? Halen, BSN, RN

What is your Educational Background? I received my associates degree in nursing from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins WV, a small town in the middle of the state and not too far from the popular ski resort, Snowshoe. After a few years in nursing, RN, I went back to Davis & Elkins College to get my bachelor’s degree, BSN.

How did you come to work in Oncology/Hematology? While I was a travel nurse and worked in Med-Surg nursing, my husband got a job in Charlotte and so we moved here. Novant Health Cancer had an opening in their in-patient oncology floor that I took. While I was there, an infusion nurse at OSC asked if I would be interested in an out-patient oncology clinic and I was very happy to transition to this role over a year ago.

What was the last thing you were researching on the Internet? Hiking and camping. We were looking for destinations in Asheville and Boone. I grew up in Montana and I love the outdoors!

What do you like to do when you’re “off the clock”?
Hiking, camping, being outside and spending time with my 10-month old son, Luka, my husband, and our two pups.

What is your favorite snack? Chex Mix, and I love chocolate, dark chocolate.

Beach or mountains? Mountains, see my previous replies; however, I do like to go to the beach on occasion.

What have you watched multiple times? Big Bang Theory

If you were given a car, any car of your choice, what would that be? I’m not into fancy cars, so I would say a Jeep.
